When Studio 100 selected us to build an app for Piet Piraat, we got childishly enthusiastic. We put on our pirate's hats and developed a 5-level game with a 2-player mode. Arrr!
In 'Piet Piraat Schattenjacht', a player leaves on a treasure hunt. He can sail his ship to five different islands to complete only one mission: collect as many gold coins and treasure-chests as possible.
The game is aimed at young children, aged 4 to 9. Throughout the game, the player must destroy unstable constructions to earn points.
However much we love 'Angry Birds', we wanted to add to it and make the game more about bringing people together.
I dare ye!
We came up with the entire concept and game play, and took care of the execution, design and development, in close cooperation with Studio 100.
To enhance the experience, we added the 2-player mode to the game. A player can choose whether he wants to defeat 'Captain Lachtand' (1 player), or challenge a brother, sister, parent or friend to an actual pirate's duel (2 players). In this mode, the player can select a world and character at the start of the game.
At every win, a new random treasure is stored in the 'Treasure Room'.
How did we do it?
We created mock-ups of the different views as we envisioned them. We carefully thought out a game play and defined which screens would be necessary to make the experience complete.
Studio 100 provided the necessary assets, on which we could base our designs.
The voice of actor P. Van De Velde (who plays the original Piet Piraat character) encourages each player throughout the game.
